53rd Annual Research Festival

UW Psychology's 53rd Annual Research Festival featured research conducted by 16 clinical and experimental graduate students at the end of their first or second years of study. Speakers included Ange Vittone, Brenda (Siyue) Qiu, Cara Guthrie, Celine Lu, Daniela Muñoz Lopez, Daniela Seczon, Haylee Swiger, Ian Quah, Keith Jamison, Kimberly Nielsen, Mahnoor Hyat, MJ Schneider, Shivani Pandey, Todd I. Obilor II, Tristan Martin, and Zac Trevorrow.

2024 Hooding Ceremony

On June 8th, 10 students donned regalia as newly minted Ph.D.s. During the ceremony, students and advisors shared memories, acknowledgements, and best wishes. This year, 10 students participated, and we wish them the best as they move on to new adventures.

 

 

Data Science for Social Good and the Psychology Data Science Option

This summer, Rebecca Schachtman joins a cohort of 16 student fellows in the eScience Institute's Data Science for Social Good summer program. Schachtman, who is pursuing a Ph.D. option in data science, will contribute to a team focused the project titled “Understanding Unsheltered Homelessness in King County: UW 2023 Seattle Area Homeless Count.” Read more about the DSSG program and the data science option.

 

Spotlight on Teaching: Seminar Introduces Undergraduates to Measurement in Psychology

This spring, Sarena Sabine, a fourth-year psychology PhD student in the quantitative area, designed and taught a new advanced undergraduate course titled, “An Imperfect Science: Evaluating Measurement in Psychology.” Students learned about the development, assessment, and overall quality of psychological self-report measures through both a theoretical and a statistical perspective. Here, Sarena shares about her experience designing and teaching the course.
