Allen L. Edwards Psychology Lecture Series
Professor Allen Edwards was affiliated with the University of Washington Department of Psychology for half of a century, from his arrival in Seattle in 1944 as an Associate Professor to his death in 1994. Professor Allen Edwards endowed the Edwards Lectureship to bring nationally and internationally renowned psychologists to campus for short visits to interact with faculty and students. The first Edwards Lecture was delivered by Professor Mark Pagel of University of Reading, England, in 1999. Pagel was a student of Edwards’ and holds a Ph.D. degree from the UW Psychology Department. Since the inaugural Edwards Lecture, we have hosted an impressive list of distinguished speakers during an annual three-part lecture series.

Our sexuality reflects the very core of our being. Our sexual identity, our attractions, and our sexual response all strongly impact our lives and our relationships. In one talk, Dr. Chivers will present exciting research that challenges our commonly held assumptions about sexual desire and response. In a second talk, Dr. McNichols will present a new model for sex education that embraces the specific challenges and ideas inherent to how young people today conceptualize sex and their own sexuality.
