Description

The Stereotypes, Identity, and Belonging Lab (SIBL) is conducting research in several areas. We seek to understand the psychological causes and consequences of inequality and discrimination in U.S. society. We examine how stereotypes and other cultural beliefs preclude the full participation of women, people of color, and other disadvantaged groups, and importantly, how to change cultural beliefs to reduce inequalities. Current topics include women’s participation in computer science and other male-associated engineering fields, perceptions of Black immigrants compared to Black Americans, and the effect of different types of cultures on women's experiences in work and academic contexts.
RAs will help with creating study materials, analyzing data, running participants, doing literature searches, and other research-related tasks.
