Sapna Cheryan offers advice to grads in KUOW interview
Sapna Cheryan, Professor of Psychology, is quoted in a KUOW interview that reexamines the frequent advice offered to grads to "follow your passions."
According to Cheryan, many students may not that the chance to try classes or extracurricular activities in every field. "“I don't think we should tell people, ‘Don’t do what you're interested in. The problem is, we don't get to try everything...If we had a systematic way for everybody to try everything in a way that’s true to the field... then I would feel more comfortable telling students to follow their passions."
Instead, Cheryan suggests trying different things before deciding on a major or a career.
