Cher Yang, Ph.D. ('23) won the People's Choice Award at the joint meeting of the International Conference for Cognitive Modeling and the Society for Mathematical Psychology (ICCM/MathPsych). Cher is mentored by Andrea Stocco.
Ella Lombard was awarded the Jenessa Shapiro Graduate Research Award by the Society for Personality and Social Psychology. Mahnoor Hyat was awarded a population health Tier 1 grant this spring. The University of Washington Population Health Initiative’s Tier 1 Pilot Research Grant program encourages new interdisciplinary collaborations among investigators for projects that address critical components of grand challenges the UW seeks to address in population health. Mahnoor works is mentored by Jen Forsyth. The award title is “Working Towards Prevention: Identifying Early Predictors of Risk for Schizophrenia in Diverse Youth.”
Victoria Hones (a graduate student in Sheri Mizumori’s laboratory) received an F31 National Research Service Award from the National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIH)! This is a 3-year award that will support Victoria’s investigation into the ‘Neural Signatures and Cognitive Performance During Morphine Withdrawal, and Subsequent Impact of Psilocybin.’ Her research will provide a better understanding of why opiate use is addicting, and it will inform the development of future treatments for opiate addiction, especially those involving psychedelics.
PUBLICATIONS
Developmental psychology doctoral candidate Carly Gray was lead author on an article published in the journal Land, examining the effects of Covid-19 on Girl Scouts' mental health and physical activity, and specifically whether their access to nature helps buffer against the effects of Covid-19. Gray is a member of the Human Interaction with Nature and Technological Systems (HINTS) Lab and is mentored by Peter Kahn, who is a co-author of this publication. Clinical psychology doctoral candidate Frank Song co-authored a paper on the effects of caffeine and alcohol on sleep, published by PLOS One. Song and co-author Matthew P. Walker (University of California, Berkeley) tracked Wall Street traders for six weeks and found that, among participants who used caffeine during the day and alcohol at night, the negative effects on sleep seemed to offset -- for a while. Kim Bourne, Rachel Song, and Katherine Weltzien published an article, "Creating inclusive schools to reduce health and well-being disparities" in Social and Personality Psychology Compass.
