Short Project Description

The Behavioral Research and Therapy Clinics (BRTC), a clinical research center that develops and improves effective and pragmatic treatments for individuals with severe, complex, and treatment-resisting mental disorders, seeks research assistants for various projects related to Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), a cognitive-behavioral treatment developed by Dr. Linehan. As part of our Treatment Development Clinic, research assistants assist with data entry and management for our clinical research studies and fulfill additional duties as needed. They also observe and code (a) DBT skills-training groups that target skills in mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance and (b) a DBT Consultation Team, a weekly meeting of DBT therapists. Student commitment: Students must commit to 9 hours per week (3 credits) for 3 quarters. These hours include a weekly seminar (scheduling varies) on clinical research methodology, behavior therapy, and a number of other topics. Students regularly meet with their supervisors to discuss tasks and how they relate to the projects overall.

Other:Possible duties (assigned based on student interest and lab needs) include entering, coding, and/or analyzing data; conducting literature reviews; observing and coding therapy sessions and therapist supervision teams; managing, copying, and/or transcribing DVDs of therapy sessions; and conducting assessment interviews. Additional duties may include administrative tasks such as filing, preparing mailings, labeling DVDs, preparing assessment packets, and faxing information to healthcare providers.
