Short Project Description
Our lab examines how cultural stereotypes shape everyday choices and behaviors. Our experiments include investigating the influence of racial and gender stereotypes, why women are underrepresented in computer science, who is considered American and why that matters, and how sexual orientation stereotypes influence perceptions. We are always looking for excellent research assistants (499s and volunteers) to join our team and help run participants in multiple research studies, work on study stimuli and data, be actors in studies, and attend weekly lab meetings with the professor and graduate students. Research assistants in our lab have shaped the direction of many of the questions we ask and have the opportunity to conduct their own research after being in the lab for at least a quarter. Past research assistants have authored publications, won research awards, presented at Mary Gates and other conferences, and been accepted into PhD programs. This is a fun and interactive lab, so all research assistants will get a chance to get to know the professor, lab manager, graduate students, and other research assistants. Typically, research assistants in this lab learn how to design experiments, program studies in Qualtrics, enter and analyze data in Excel and SPSS, read SPSS output, and interview participants. This opportunity is excellent for students who are interested in pursuing graduate school. If you're curious about research and are looking to gain hands-on experience with a friendly and passionate team then this is the lab for you!
