Short Project Description

It has been repeatedly observed that autism spectrum disorder (ASD) disproportionately affects males relative to females. Although there have been many attempts to explain this bias, no clear answers have emerged because of small sample sizes. This study hopes to identify sex differences in the brain and DNA to learn how these differences relate to the heterogeneity in ASD behavior. Once we learn about these sex differences in ASD, we might be able to discover better ways of diagnosing, treatment, and outcomes for children with autism. Children enrolled in the study are between the ages of 8 and 17, with or without a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder. This project utilizes behavioral measures, EEG, fMRI and genetic information to characterize participants. We are looking for individuals to help with collection, data entry, coding, and processing on this project.

Times a student must bepresent/work: Regular hours should take place during normal office hours (8:00 am - 5:00 pm), and hours take place at Seattle Children's Research Institute. Some study visits take place on weekends and evenings and some flexibility to assist with this is preferred (but not required).
Student commitment: 3 quarters

Skills / Experience Preferred

We are looking for individuals who are responsible, self-directed and comfortable with computers and learning new computer programs. Some experience with individuals with autism or children with developmental delay is also preferred.
